 English as Second Language Ministry

English classes are being taught at four different times in the Christian Learning Center and if anyone interested in seeing what we do, visitors are always welcome. Our English as Second Language (ESL) teachers are providing a valuable service to the Hispanic immigrants in our community and their children. In addition to teaching English, we help parents with school forms, we help children of our students with homework, we help with work forms, job applications, bill paying, housing and other needs that arise. Pastor Lopez from Primera Iglesia Lutherana in Racine is our program director and also gives assistance as he is able. He would like to offer a Bible study in Spanish in Burlington, and is training leaders from the church in Racine to come and work with us here in Burlington. The South Wisconsin District mission leader Dan McMiller is also exploring ways to help us in Burlington. A big need is homework help for children of our students. If you can come on Wednesday or Thursday evenings to give homework help please call Pat Bolling at 262 763-3281. Come visit any of our classes and see what we do, and, if you would like to help, talk to any of the teachers. We can use your time and gifts!

Sharon Welch is teaching level 3 ESL on Thursday mornings, Nancy Hanks (Mary St. John's mom) is teaching level 1 on Wednesday mornings, Pat Bolling is teaching level 1 on Wednesday mornings and level 3 on Wednesday evenings, Teresa Trawitzke is teaching level 1 on Wednesday evenings, Chris Kitelinger is teaching level 1 on Wednesday evenings, Becca Kitelinger usually teaches level 1 on Wednesday evenings (but currently has a graduate class keeping her in Milwaukee), Katie Mooney teaches level 2 on Thursday evenings. Nancy Harwood, Mary St. John, Eric Mooney, and Jane Schmidt are also ESL teachers who also help with the program.
